Enough of the "Anti-Blonde" Movement

There was a recent article on Slate.com about "TV's Aryan Sisterhood." It's filled with the same old anti-blonde, sexist, racist crap.

You can read about it here: http://www.slate.com/id/2136418/?nav=fix

Evidently, the one group for which slurs are still okay is blonde women. It's interesting to note the sexism involved (not just from men, but also, unconsciously, from other women). Somehow these pejoratives about blondes (the feminine is "blonde" by the way, not "blond") apply only to women and not to men. Isn't that interesting? It's not surprising, however. Evidently, stupidity is canceled out in blonde-haired people when there is a Y-chromosome involved-- How convenient for men. I guess the very fact that there are a lot of women with blonde hair who are on news programs is evidence of the stupidity of said programs. No one even dares address the sexism involved in this assumption. I dare say if this were said of any other group of women there would be outrage. Blondes, however, are acceptable targets. Forgive me if I happen to view the whole "dumb blonde" stereotype as a very convenient way for me to vent their fears and disdain of white women in general under a veneer of humor or challenge of sexual convention.

It's pretty clear to me that white women have become public threat #1 in American culture. We receive more college degrees than ANY OTHER GROUP. How many white women know that? In fact, we receive more college degrees than black, Latin and Asian women COMBINED. Yet, right now, if you apply to college, it's white women who are more likely than ANY OTHER GROUP to be bumped out of a well-deserved college placement because of their race and gender. Again, how many white women are aware of that?

Instead of celebrating our ascendency, we're told to go back in the home and push strollers. Sorry. I have a degree from one of the best schools in the country and I'm using it. And I don't want to hear any angry comments from my bretheren-- only support. My ascendency doesn't pull you down, rather it raises our race overall. Let me remind you that the women of our ancestry were warriors (unlike what people want us to believe).

This is one blonde who is more than fed up about it.

Bottom-rung Blonde

Okay, so I've had it with the way I'm treated in the working world. I don't care what anyone says, in the corporate world, white women are at the bottom rung of the ladder. And because I'm blonde, everybody thinks I'm both stupid and priviledged-- well, I neither. I'm sick of taking other peoples put-downs and resentment and I'm sick of being knocked down the ladder by other women becuase I'm white.

Everybody else has their power groups and networks except white women. Black women band together, Hispanic women band together, everybody. White men band together and leave us behind. I'm a little tire of the fact that they seem more worried about Asian women than they do us.

White women are the largest population group in America-- larger than white men and way larger than all minorities. We're the biggest voting block and we're also the group that is most highly educated. So why don't we have more power? That's all I want to know.

I try to get white women to network with me, but they want to always go on their own. They get uncomfortable when I talk about us as "white" women, I guess cause its not p.c. or something, but they'd better wake up. Those other girls don't care about us. Do you think black women are worried about whether they can help us as other women or not? Hell no. They'll let us swing in the wind, so long as they get ahead. But white women have to be little saviors-- well, it's time for us to save ourselves. We need to get it together and band together, otherwise, pretty soon, we're gonna be left out, left behind and kicked aside.

The Media Image of the White Woman

I chose my Live Journal name because I thought it was the best representation of the image of a strong white woman. The valkyries-- Warrior maidens, choosers of the slain-- are the epitome of the beauty and power of a white woman. And make no mistake, our beauty is as much a part of our power as our intellect, morals and physical strength. Sadly, this image of the white woman is being obscured, buried, in our contemporary culture. Too often are we portrayed as weak, complaining shrews.

It is pretty clear to me that white women are now the targets of scorn and derision in the media. Once the very archetype of glamour and regal womanhood, we've been relegated to being the foils for non-white women in movies and TV. Enough is enough.

Look at films like "Bringing Down the House" and the recent James Bond movies. It is the woman of color who is the strong heroine, while the white woman is the fool, the harpie, the weak one who gets her comeuppance. Look at TV shows. The non-white woman is the object of beauty for white men, while white women are relegated to the background.

In "Bringing Down the House," not only is the black woman the heroine, but she physically dominates a white woman. I don't know how anyone else feels, but I'm tired of this stereotype of the "strong black woman," alongside the "helpless white female." I'm confident in my own strength and power and I'm not intimidated by any woman.

We are as much to blame as anyone. We worry so much about being "objectified" that we've turned our men's eyes to the "charms" of non-whites. Enough. Every objective scientific study I've ever seen has shown that men, by nature, are drawn to fairer, whiter women-- in all cultures. We have the power and we should not relinquish it.

White women are leaders throughout the world, not weak followers. It's in the Scandinavian countries that women have the most powers (the whitest countries there are). And I, personally, have had enough of the "dumb blonde" and "weak blonde" sterotype. The Scandinavian countries are full of blondes, and the women there are world leaders in female power. Also, I find it not too surprising that the "dumb blonde" stereotype applies to women and not men-- that's because our men now take us for granted and look out for themselves.

We, as white women, must define ourselves not as "white" or as "women," but as both white AND women-- We are "white women" first, last and always. We have to look out for ourselves because, sadly, our men have begun to forget us.

The power of our race is in the female. The strength of our race is with us. If we are truly worried about white issues then we must worry about the image of the white female and how it reflects on each of us as women and how it weakens or strengthens our kind.

White women: Power, strength, brilliance, beauty!

To Be White And A Woman

We as white women exist in a strange netherworld of submission. As whites, we put our needs as women second to what is good for our men. If we are concerned with women's rights and needs, we put our concerns as white women second to those of all women, black women, asian women, etc. We either define ourselves as white or as women but never as both at the same time. What happens is that as white women we fall to the bottom rung of whites and the bottom rung as women.

Those who seek a strong white culture usually seek it by strengthening men and asking women to be "mutters" who guard their "kind" (to use the German phrases). But we as white women are exceeding our men, and other women and men, in our acheivements. We do better in school and make up a bulk of the workforce, yet we are consistently overlooked when it comes to appreciating our abilities and protecting our rights. If you are a man, you have the "old boys" network of other men to look out for you. If you are a minority, you have activists. But if you are a white women, you are on your own-- Our men look after themselves first, and other women feel a rivalry with us and look to their own racial/gender needs first, figuring we don't need or deserve their concern.

Right now, white women get paid less than black or Asian women for the same job with the same credentials. Does anybody care? Where are my white sisters up in arms about this? They're busy worrying about our men, when we should be the ones out in front for our race. We have the best qualifications and we have something no one else has: the power of white womanhood. We are a special group of women who, I believe, have a power unmatched by any woman or man. It's time for us to raise our fists as white women and take our rightful place at the top of our culture.

Maybe if a white woman becomes president we will wake up. I don't know. I worry. We white women may be dooming ourselves to extinction-- and no one will notice.

Finally

I haven't had the chance to add anything to my journal. I'm going to do so now. There's a lot that I want to say. No one seems to speak up for white women and somebody has to. There are people who speak up for whites and people who speak up for women, but no one seems to do both. We have our own special concerns and it's time for us to look out for ourselves. We seem to have been thrown onto the bottom rung in this culture. There are advocates for men (they have power), white men, non-white men and women, but everyone one steps over us to take care of their own concerns while we stand by and support our sisters in struggle or the men of our race. When it comes time for us to be taken care of, we are forgotten. Our concerns come second to men on white issues and are completely overlooked on women's issues. I say that the time is now for white women to look out for themselves.

Also, I am of the belief that we as white women have a special deep strength and power not held by men or non-white women. I'm not talking about some weird sci-fi thing, but I do believe we have special gifts that other women do not and a power that men could only hope for. There is no better group positioned to really change things in our world. White women have a special position, a special place, and it's time we used it to help ourselves and take our rightful place atop the social hierarchy.
